Victoria proposes tougher pet breeding laws…

The Victorian Government is proposing tougher laws on pet breeders to try to stop inhumane treatment of cats and dogs. If re-elected in November, the Government will give councils the power to shut down rogue pet breeding operations and immediately seize animals. Agriculture Minister Joe Helper says breeders that have five or more fertile female dogs or cats would also have to register as domestic animal businesses. The study says dog ownership can decrease the chances of children being obese by as much as 50 per cent. They are called man's best friend, but they could also be the best weapon in the fight against childhood obesity.
